San Diego Local Control of Housing Initiative
Why I Need Funding for My Podcast, The Way Home
Introduction
San Diego is at a crossroads. Sacramento politicians are forcing one-size-fits-all housing laws on our city, stripping away local decision-making and ignoring the unique needs of our communities. But as a Charter City, San Diego has the constitutional right to govern its own housing policies.
That’s why I’m launching the San Diego Local Control of Housing Initiative—a ballot measure to restore our city’s power over land use and development. With your support, we can give San Diegans the ability to shape their neighborhoods instead of being dictated to by bureaucrats in Sacramento.
The Problem: State Overreach Threatens San Diego
- Loss of Local Control: State laws like SB 9 and SB 10 force increased density and eliminate single-family zoning, overriding local planning.
- Strained Infrastructure: Sacramento’s mandates ignore San Diego’s traffic congestion, water shortages, and limited public services.
- Community Impact: Rapid, unchecked upzoning threatens neighborhood character, property values, and quality of life.
The Solution: Our Ballot Initiative
We are placing a measure on the 2026 ballot that will:
✅ Assert San Diego’s Charter City rights to regulate housing independently.
✅ Reject state housing mandates unless approved by San Diego voters or City Council.
✅ Preserve community character by allowing the city to tailor growth to local needs.
✅ Ensure responsible development that considers infrastructure, safety, and livability.
Why Invest?
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to stand up for San Diego and set a legal precedent for Charter Cities statewide. Your investment will:
- Fund a winning campaign: Signature gathering, legal support, and voter outreach.
- Protect property rights: Ensuring responsible, locally managed development.
- Influence the future of housing policy: San Diego can be a model for cities across California.
